Meet Your Surgeon
Board-certified ophthalmologist and oculoplastic surgeon, Dr. Tara Goecks, is an Ivy League alumna, having graduated from the University of Pennsylvania with honors before embarking on a two year mission as a Peace Corps Volunteer in Burkina Faso, West Africa. While there, she developed a deep appreciation for the healthcare sector and a commitment to service. This inspired her, in large part, to pursue a career in medicine.
Dr. Goecks obtained her medical degree at the University of Vermont College of Medicine and pursued her residency in Ophthalmology at the Storm Eye Institute after an internship in Surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina. She was selected amongst her peers for a highly coveted fellowship in Oculoplastic Surgery at Vanderbilt and the University of Tennessee, Memphis. She was under the mentorship of renowned leaders in the field, Drs. Ralph Wesley and Chris Fleming, both prior presidents of the prestigious American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS). This fellowship program is widely recognized as one of the top training programs nationally for cosmetic oculofacial plastic surgery, reconstructive surgery, tear drainage system surgery, trauma and orbital disease.
Dr. Goecks is a diplomate of the American Board of Ophthalmology (ABO), a member of the American Society of Ophthalmic Plastic & Reconstructive Surgery (ASOPRS), the American Academy of Ophthalmology (AAO), the Oregon Academy of Ophthalmology (OAO), a fellow of the American College of Surgeons (ACS), and a former board member of the Colorado Society of Eye Physicians and Surgeons (CSEPS).
Great passions of Dr. Goecks’ are travel and international outreach. She has trained physicians in oculoplastic surgery in Panama and Ethiopia and participated in a public healthcare initiative for expanding neurosurgical care in rural Tanzania. She hopes to continue to provide surgical training and care to underserved areas globally and domestically. Additionally, she strives to be outdoors as much as possible and enjoys skiing, hiking, travel and spending time with her beloved rescue pup, Finn.
